Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)

Most provinces in Canada have an agreement with the Government of Canada that allows them to nominate immigrants who wish to settle in that province. If you choose to immigrate to Canada as a provincial nominee, you must first apply to the province where you wish to settle and complete its provincial nomination process. The province will consider your application based on its immigration needs and your genuine intention to settle there.

As of January 2015, most of the provincial nominee programs have combined their programs with the Express Entry system and will now accept a portion of their applicants through that program.

Here is a list of the provinces and territories currently participating in this program. Since the criteria vary among the provinces, you should visit their websites for more information.

After you have been nominated by a province or territory, you have to make a separate application to Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) for permanent residence. A CIC officer will then assess your application based on Canadian immigration regulations.

You will have to pass a medical examination and security and criminal checks. You must also show that you have enough money to support yourself and your dependants after you arrive in Canada. Provincial nominees are not assessed on the six selection factors of the Federal Skilled Workers Program.

*If you have completed a bridging program and passed the initial stage of certification as determined by the appropriate regulatory body, you are not required to have a job offer at the time of application.

**If you completed your studies at a recognized post-secondary institute outside of Newfoundland and Labrador, your job or job offer must be related to your field of study. You also may be required to work for a minimum of 1 year prior to submission of your PNP application.

I applied under OINP (Human capital stream) and I got nominated in December, 2016 with a NOC code 0113 . What I filled in my express entry is NOC code 0911. After getting the nomination certificate, I changed the NOC code from 0911 to 0113. I now have Invitation to apply for permanent residence and found out that my job description fits more if I use 0911. can I go ahead and make the change and include a letter of explanation for my actions?

secondly, I found out after surfing the internet that if a province makes a mistake on NOC code and it is compared at the federal level (which IRCC falls under) IRCC will go with the federal.

Please I need an advice on what to do.

I am on a working-holiday visa from the UK under the IEC. I am planning to work as a food and beverage server in Revelstoke for the next 9 months and then apply to the BC PNP under the semi-skilled programme. With my masters degree, experience and language test results I figure I have above the 95 point threshold for guaranteed invitations to apply. Following nomination I understand I need medical exams, police checks etc. and to pay fees of a couple of thousand $.
My question: Do I need my employer to get an LMIA for me? Does my employer need to pay anything at any point? i know they need to submit documents, but it will be difficult to get money out of them. My visa wasn’t issued with an LMIA, I wasn’t hired with an LMIA, and my work permit will be valid for 3 more months after my application starts with BC PNP. Once I have confirmed that I do not need an LMIA and my employer doesn’t need to pay anything I believe I can apply directly myself online easily enough.
